Update on Sophia’s Legacy: Holocaust, Genocide, and Conflict Education in the Classroom.

The Sophia’s Legacy Team has trained their pilot cohort of 8 exceptional Buffalo Public Schools teachers and social workers. In the final semester of the Vogt Family grant, they we will work with the teachers in their classrooms to apply the work. AFP is proud to share that Sophia’s Legacy has already received interest from more schools and universities outside of Buffalo!

About Sophia’s Legacy:

Sophia’s Legacy is a professional development program for educators designed to celebrate and share the miraculous and inspiring story of Holocaust survivor, Sophia Veffer. With her story as the foundation, important content from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Rwanda Peace Values Education curriculum are added to create robust, tangible and practical lessons, tools and vocabulary for teachers to bring challenging topics into their classrooms and schools.

Sophia’s Legacy is a response to the reality that fewer high school graduates in the U.S. are reporting knowledge of the Holocaust or any other genocide. AFP is bringing the truth to schools.
