Kigali genocide memorial

The Kigali Genocide Memorial opened my heart to the lives that were lost helplessly while the world watched. While in the memorial center I decided not to take any image to respect those who lost their lives and to connect my full heart to the story of the victims. The faces of the victim held my heart,  they all had their own stories, goals, and accomplishments. I felt connected to the images.

After leaving the memorial center, Drew asked me a question and I couldn’t help but tear up. Drew asked me “What year was I born” and I quickly asked myself “what if I was born in Rwanda in 1994 during the genocide”. I couldn’t imagine the fear of being hunted down for something you couldn’t control.

I challenge those reading to take a moment out of their lives and think about the conflicts that are occurring in society right now. “I want you to understand that it’s your responsibility to help protect humanity and those who are helpless. Perceptive is important, We are all human’s born equal. Open your heart and you’ll see how similar we all are.”
